About Netronic
Some information about this package.
Netronic is a desktop theming suite for [Xfce 4.18], alongside [GTK], [Qt 5], and [Wine] applications running on top of it.
Visually, it follows the NET design, which basically features flat accents and straight, beveled borders, which we see as a middle ground between flat design and skeuomorphism. Despite being unique, it might not appeal to some people.
Its GTK themes--modified from Adwaita--removed as many animations, shadows, and workarounds or hacks as possible while retaining its selectors. The result is a frilless stylesheet that should work just as well.
Platforms
Xfce, Qt 5, and Wine.
Netronic's Xfce themes include those for its window manager and notification service.
For Qt 5, color schemes are available for the Qt 5 Configuration Tool.
For Wine, registry imports are available and may work also on Windows Classic. Alternatively, Wine staging users may try the GTK theming feature.
GTK 2 will never be supported because its theming infrastructure is different from that for GTK 3, and that it has been deprecated with the release of GTK 4. Netronic follows Xfce's transition to GTK 4, and has recently gotten basic support for it.
Variants
Dark and light colors with sizes up to XXHDPI.
Color Schemes
There are dark, light, and Win9 schemes for each theme. Light is the
default in hopes to support dark mode switches by appending -dark
to the dark scheme name, but that never worked reliably. The Win9
scheme produces a more classic look.
DPIs
With Xfce, changing the DPI is different from (de)magnifying web pages, as
it affects only measurements relative to the font size. In other words, the CSS
pixel unit (px
) remains at the standard base of 96 dpi. Likewise,
since the window manager themes use X PixMaps (XPMs)--a raster image
format--they do not scale with higher DPIs. To compensate for these
discrepancies, instead of making high-DPI variants of our GTK themes, we relate
every metric to the font size.
In addition to MDPI (100%), Netronic's window
manager themes are available in MHDPI (125%), HDPI (150%), XHDPI (200%), and
XXHDPI (300%). There is also a double integer scaling feature in
xfce4-appearance-settings
under Window Scaling. Still, we hope to have DPI-aware window manager themes in the
future.
